Characteristics

Shrub 1–3 m high. Young stems with short antrorse hairs. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, ±elliptic or narrowly elliptic, glabrous and medium to dark green on adaxial surface, sparsely hairy and much paler abaxially; lamina 5–70 mm long, 2–14.5 mm wide. Inflorescence of usually 4–12-flowered head-like clusters; clusters terminal or in an upper axil, subtended by 2 or 4 leaves 4.5–39 mm long. Flowers bisexual, with short hairs outside, glabrous inside, white or nearly so; pedicel densely hairy. Hypanthium 4.5–5.5 mm long, splitting irregularly at base in fruit; style-portion 2–3 mm long. Sepals 1.8–3.5 mm long. Ovary distally hairy. Mature fruit succulent, naked.
