Characteristics

Shrub 0.3–2.5 m high. Young stems hairy. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, narrowly elliptic to obovate or almost circular, glabrous, usually concolorous; lamina 2–20 mm long, 1.5–10 mm wide. Inflorescence terminal, compact, 9–many-flowered; involucral bracts 2 or 4, petiolate, elliptic to circular, 3–11.5 mm long, 2–11 mm wide, glabrous, often not exceeding male inflorescence. Flowers hairy outside, sparsely hairy inside hypanthium; pedicel hairy. Sepals glabrous inside. Male flowers: hypanthium 3–5.5 mm long; sepals 1.5–3 mm long. Female flowers: hypanthium 2.2–4.5 mm long; style-portion 0.5–1 mm long; sepals 1–1.8 mm long; ovary distally hairy. Fruit dry, enclosed.
