Characteristics

Shrub 0.35–1.2 m high. Leaves shortly petiolate, usually narrowly ovate to narrowly obovate, concolorous, medium green; lamina 3–23 mm long, 1.5–7 mm wide. Involucral bracts green in male plants, reddish green in female plants, becoming deep red-purple in fruit. Female inflorescence with hairs to 5 mm long on inside of receptacle, on pedicels and on abortive flowers (when present), which are 0.5–3 mm long. Male flowers white or pinkish; hypanthium 6–7 mm long, glabrous at base, with short hairs above; pedicel glabrous or with hairs 0.3–3 mm long; sepals 2–3.2 mm long; stamens shorter or longer than sepals. Female flowers white; hypanthium c. 5.5 mm long, with short hairs on style-portion, glabrous below; sepals c. 1.5 mm long.
