Characteristics

Shrub usually 40–70 cm high. Young stems with short appressed hairs. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, narrowly elliptic to obovate, glabrous, medium to dark green on adaxial surface, paler abaxially; lamina 3–11.5 mm long, 1–3.5 mm wide. Inflorescence of head-like, 7–34-flowered clusters; clusters terminal or more or less axillary, often in axil of branch, subtended by 4 or rarely 2 leaves, which are larger than the leaves below. Flowers hairy outside except at base, glabrous inside, yellow; pedicel hairy. Male flowers: hypanthium 0.8–2 mm long; sepals 0.8–1.2 mm long. Female flowers: hypanthium 0.8–2.5 mm long, persistent; sepals 0.5–1 mm long, persistent; ovary distally hairy. Fruit dry, enclosed.
