Characteristics

Shrub 0.4–1.5 m high. Leaves shortly petiolate, elliptic, flat, discolorous; lamina 9–29 mm long, 2–9 mm wide. Inflorescence erect; involucral bracts 4, broadly ovate, 9–20 mm long, 7–13 mm wide; outer bracts hairy inside; inner bracts densely hairy inside, ciliate. Flowers bisexual or very rarely female, glabrous inside, pink. Hypanthium not circumscissile, usually 11–16 mm long; ovary-portion with very short hairs, often with a few long hairs near summit; style-portion usually 8–12 mm long, with a mixture of long spreading and short hairs, the long hairs concentrated in lower half. Sepals 2.5–5 mm long. Stamens usually exceeding sepals; filament 2–3.5 mm long; anther locules semi-latrorse to latrorse.
