Characteristics

Shrub 0.3–1 m high, single-stemmed at base. Leaves opposite or nearly so, ovate or broadly ovate, medium green or bluish green; lamina 12–27 mm long, 6–20 mm wide. Inflorescence: rachis usually 1.5–2 cm long at maturity; involucral bracts 4–7, broadly ovate or rarely ovate, 9–18 mm long, 7–16 mm wide, persistent, glabrous outside, hairy inside, usually ciliate. Flowers white, sometimes cream. Hypanthium persistent or breaking irregularly above ovary, 10–12 mm long, glabrous inside; ovary-portion with very dense antrorse hairs; style-portion with mixed long and minute hairs in lower half and short hairs above. Sepals 2.5–3 mm long. Stamens slightly shorter than to shortly exceeding sepals.
