Characteristics

Shrub 5–50 cm high. Young stems densely hairy. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, usually narrowly elliptic or elliptic, glabrous, medium green, often slightly paler abaxially; lamina usually 6–16 mm long, 1.5–9 mm wide. Inflorescence erect, compact, many-flowered; involucral bracts 4 or 6, ±ovate, 6.5–18 mm long, 3–11 mm wide, glabrous outside or with a few hairs at apex, hairy inside, yellow at base, green above. Flowers bisexual or female, glabrous at base outside, densely antrorse-hairy above, creamy white. Hypanthium 8–15 mm long, circumscissile; style-portion 6.5–12.5 mm long, hairy inside. Sepals 1.5–4.5 mm long, glabrous inside. Stamens shorter than sepals; anther locules semi-latrorse, rarely almost introrse. Ovary distally hairy.
