Characteristics

Shrub usually 0.7–1.3 m high. Young stems hairy. Leaves alternate or sometimes subopposite, shortly petiolate, narrowly elliptic, hairy, tending to become glabrous on adaxial surface, somewhat discolorous, medium green; lamina 15–29 mm long, 2.5–5 mm wide. Inflorescence of few-flowered axillary clusters, with both male (or perhaps bisexual) flowers and female flowers. Flowers densely antrorse-hairy outside, sparsely hairy inside tube and often inside sepals, creamy white to pale yellow. Hypanthium 4–5 mm long, circumscissile; style-portion 2–3 mm long. Sepals erect, 1–1.5 mm long. Stamens inserted below sepals, subsessile in throat; anther locules introrse. Style not exserted.
