Characteristics

Shrub 0.3–1 m high. Young stems hairy. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, narrowly elliptic or elliptic, glabrous or nearly so, concolorous, green or bluish green; lamina 6–33 mm long, 1.5–8 mm wide. Inflorescence terminal, compact, many-flowered; involucral bracts 2 or 4, leaf-like, petiolate, 8–16 mm long, 3–9 mm wide, glabrous, usually exceeding male inflorescence. Flowers hairy outside, with a few hairs inside hypanthium, white; pedicel hairy. Sepals glabrous inside. Male flowers: hypanthium 4.5–6 mm long; sepals 2–3 mm long. Female flowers: hypanthium 4–5.5 mm long, circumscissile above ovary; style-portion 1–1.5 mm long; sepals 1–1.8 mm long; ovary distally hairy. Fruit dry, enclosed.
