Characteristics

Shrub 0.2–1 m high. Leaves sessile or subsessile, ovate to narrowly elliptic, concolorous, medium green; lamina 12–32 mm long, 5–11 mm wide, rarely some leaves smaller. Involucral bracts in 2–4 pairs, elliptic to broadly elliptic, 22–60 mm long, 11–45 mm wide, usually at least partially red to purple, otherwise pale green to cream. Flowers bisexual or rarely female, green or creamy green. Hypanthium 6–9 mm long, constricted 3–4 mm from base, with long deciduous hairs outside below constriction and shorter persistent hairs above. Sepals very narrowly triangular, 6–9 mm long. Staminal filaments 11.5–16 mm long. Style prominently exserted.
