Characteristics

Herb usually 0.2–0.6 m high. Leaves very narrowly ovate to narrowly obovate; lamina 7–52 mm long, 1–11 mm wide. Inflorescence: receptacle 2–5 mm long at first, to 8 mm long in fruit; involucral bracts broadly ovate to depressed ovate, 2–10 mm long, 3–12 mm wide, green, very rarely slightly reddish inside; peduncle 2–10 cm or rarely 1–2 cm long. Flowers red or sometimes orange-red; pedicel to 1.5 mm long. Hypanthium 4–9 mm long, glabrous. Sepals spreading, 1.5–5 mm long. Stamens shorter than to greatly exceeding sepals; anthers 0.4–1.4 mm long, bright yellow.
