Characteristics

Herb, semi-prostrate or to 0.3 m high. Leaves narrowly ovate to almost linear; lamina 5–38 mm long, 1–7 mm wide. Inflorescence: receptacle 1–2 mm long at first, to 4 mm long in fruit; involucral bracts narrowly ovate or ovate, rarely broadly ovate, 7–26 mm long, 2.5–11 mm wide, green or sometimes reddish outside, green or deep red-purple inside; peduncle absent or to 2 cm, rarely 3 cm, long. Flowers red; pedicel to 1 mm long. Hypanthium 3–6 mm long, glabrous. Sepals spreading, 1–2.5 mm long. Stamens shorter than to shortly exceeding sepals; anthers 0.3–0.8 mm long, bright yellow.
