Characteristics

Herb or semi-woody annual 5–50 cm high. Young stems hairy. Leaves alternate, shortly petiolate, narrowly elliptic or rarely linear, usually sparsely covered by antrorse hairs, sometimes just ciliate, glabrescent, concolorous, medium green to dark bluish green; lamina 3–30 mm long, 0.8–3 mm wide. Inflorescence terminal, dense many-flowered. Flowers bisexual, densely hairy outside, glabrous inside, white to yellowish green. Hypanthium 2.5–5 mm long, circumscissile; style-portion poorly defined, 0.5–2 mm long. Sepals erect, 0.4–1 mm long, sometimes purplish. Stamens inserted below sepals, subsessile in throat; anther locules semi-latrorse to ±introrse. Style not or scarcely exserted.
