Characteristics

Shrub, prostrate or to 50 cm high. Stems glabrous. Leaves opposite or nearly so, shortly petiolate, narrowly elliptic to elliptic, glabrous, medium green on adaxial surface, paler abaxially; lamina 5–21 mm long, 5–11 mm wide. Inflorescence terminal, becoming elongate and interrupted, to 35 mm long, many-flowered; involucral bracts absent. Flowers bisexual or rarely female, glabrous inside, white or pale pink; pedicel glabrous. Hypanthium 4–5 mm long, glabrous outside except a few hairs towards summit, circumscissile; style-portion 2.5–3 mm long. Sepals 1.5–2 mm long, with scattered hairs outside. Ovary distally hairy; style exserted. Fruit dry, enclosed.
