Characteristics

Stunted undershrub 5–30 cm high. Stems glabrous. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, narrowly elliptic or elliptic, glabrous, almost concolorous, green; lamina 2.5–10 mm long, 1–2.5 mm wide. Inflorescence of lateral clusters or clusters terminating short lateral branchlets, each cluster subtended by 4 sessile involucral bracts and often smaller to minute bracts below; clusters compact, usually 6–12-flowered; involucral bracts narrowly to broadly elliptic, 3–7 mm long, 2–4 mm wide, glabrous, green. Flowers glabrous inside, pale yellow. Male flowers: hypanthium 1.5–3 mm long; sepals 1–2 mm long. Female flowers: hypanthium 1.5–2.5 mm long; circumscissile above ovary; sepals 0.8–1.3 mm long; ovary glabrous. Fruit dry, enclosed.
