Characteristics

Shrub 0.3–2 m high. Young stems hairy. Leaves alternate to subopposite, shortly petiolate, narrowly elliptic to elliptic, hairy, the adaxial hairs more numerous and larger, medium to dark green on adaxial surface, paler abaxially; lamina c. 8–35 mm long, 2–10 mm wide. Inflorescence terminal, compact, 7–19-flowered. Flowers bisexual or female, densely antrorse-hairy outside, glabrous inside, yellow, sometimes partially red. Hypanthium 3–5.5 mm long, circumscissile; style-portion 1–2 mm long. Sepals 1–2 mm long. Stamens inserted below sepals, subsessile in throat; anther locules introrse. Style not or scarcely exserted.
