Characteristics

Shrub 0.25–1.2 m high, often multi-stemmed at base. Stems glabrous. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, glabrous, concolorous. Inflorescence pendulous or very rarely erect,compact, many-flowered; involucral bracts in 4–7 pairs, usually at least partially hairy inside; outermost 2 or 4 bracts glabrous outside, often ciliate; innermost bracts densely ciliate. Flowers bisexual or very rarely female, pale to deep yellow. Hypanthium circumscissile, with short hairs outside, mixed with long hairs on style-portion and sometimes on summit of ovary-portion. Stamens: anther locules semi-latrorse to almost introrse. Ovary hairy throughout.
