Characteristics

Shrub 0.3–2 m high. Stems glabrous. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, usually narrowly elliptic or elliptic, glabrous, medium green on adaxial surface, similar or paler abaxially; lamina 12–45 mm long, 2.5–20 mm wide. Inflorescence erect, compact, many-flowered; involucral bracts in 2–4 pairs, narrowly ovate or rarely ovate, 8–22 mm long, 2–10 mm wide, glabrous, leaf-like in colour or becoming purplish on abaxial surface. Flowers bisexual, glabrous outside, white or sometimes pink. Hypanthium 7–14 mm long, circumscissile; style-portion 5–11 mm long, hairy inside. Sepals 2.5–6 mm long, glabrous inside. Stamens slightly to greatly exceeding sepals; anther locules semi-latrorse. Ovary distally hairy.
