Characteristics

Annual semi-woody herb, 15–75 cm high. Young stems sparsely hairy. Leaves alternate or rarely subopposite, shortly petiolate, narrowly elliptic or linear, sparsely hairy but soon glabrescent, concolorous, usually pale green; lamina 2.5–19 mm long, 0.5–3.5 mm wide. Inflorescence terminal, elongate and interrupted at maturity, to 150 mm long. Flowers bisexual, densely white-hairy outside, glabrous inside. Hypanthium 3–5 mm long, circumscissile, the persistent base grey in fruit, with a mixture of long spreading hairs and minute hairs; style-portion poorly defined, c. 1.7 mm long. Sepals erect, 0.4–0.5 mm long. Stamens inserted below sepals, subsessile in throat; anther locules semi-latrorse. Style not or scarcely exserted.
