Characteristics

Shrub usually 0.6–1.5 m high. Young stems densely hairy. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, narrowly elliptic, glabrous and medium green on adaxial surface, hairy and pale green abaxially, the hairs concentrated on margin and midrib; lamina 5–26 mm long, 1.5–8 mm wide. Inflorescence a terminal or subterminal axillary cluster. Flowers bisexual or female, with short hairs outside, cream or white. Hypanthium 5–7.5 mm long, circumscissile, usually hairy inside. Sepals 2–2.5 mm long. Stamens inserted below sepals, subsessile in throat; anther locules introrse. Style not or shortly exserted.
