Characteristics

Plants forming dense clumps. Pseudobulbs crowded, 150–200 × 30–40 mm, fleshy, covered with brown sheaths. Leaves spreading, 3 or 4 per pseudobulb, 200–300 × 40–50 mm, dark green, thin-textured, stiff. Racemes 150–300 mm long, erect to drooping, 5–35-flowered. Flowers opening widely, 12–15 × 12–15 mm, translucent cream to creamy-yellow, on stalks c. 10 mm long. Sepals and petals widely spreading for short time, becoming cupped before closing, thin-textured, shortly hairy outside. Dorsal sepal 6–8 × 3 mm. Lateral sepals 6–8 × 4 mm. Petals 5–7 × 2.5 mm. Labellum 6–8 × 4–5 mm, entire or 3-lobed; lateral lobes crescent-shaped; midlobe short, apex truncate, with 3 parallel ridges.

Widespread and common; found growing on rocks, trunks and branches along stream banks, on mangroves, on palms and trees in swamps, rainforest margins and humid areas in open forest and woodland; frequently found on the roughened trunks of screw-palms (Pandanus species).
