Characteristics

Dioicous, large, olivaceous green-green, loosely tufted. Stem subterranean and leafless, branches to 4 cm long, microphyllous shoots common. Leaves to 2 mm long, obliquely circular, almost transversally inserted, shortly decurrent on the dorsal face of the stem, basal concave, distal part of the leaf convex. Margin acutely dentate, teeth 1-4 cells long, apical cell acutely triangular. Marginal cells 16-22 µ, basal cells 18-24 x 40-50 µ. Walls ± thick, in the marginal and distal portions with small trigones, in the basal portion rather large trigones. Oil bodies 3-6 per cell oval, 4-10 µ long, compound, colourless. Female bracts larger than the leaves, dentate. Perianth ovate-oblong, mouth densely and longly dentate. Androecia apical, bracts in 2-3 pairs.
