Characteristics

Erect semi-succulent, branched perennial herb 0.3-0.4 m tall; stems ascending, shortly pilose with longer hairs at the nodes. Leaves petiolate; blade semi-succulent, drying membranous, broadly elliptical to obovate-elliptical, 55-90 x 40-60 mm, dark green, sparingly strigose, under-surface with colourless gland-dots, apex acute to obtuse, base cuneate, margin shallowly crenate-dentate above the middle, ciliate; petiole 15-35 mm long. Inflorescence simple or with 1 or 2 pairs of branches near the base, racemes 80-150 mm long; flowers in sessile, usually 3-flowered cymes forming 4-6-flowered verticils 15-25 mm apart. Calyx 7-8 mm long in fruiting stage, glandular-hispidulous near the base. Corolla pale bluish with purple flecks on the lobes, 26-30 mm long; tube deflexed, expanding and saccate at the base and parallel-sided or narrowing slightly towards the throat; upper lip 5-6 mm long; lower lip concave, 4 mm long. Stamens free, up to 6 mm long.
