Characteristics

Slender woody climber, without prickles. Leaves with lamina penniveined, sometimes with basal veins present. Inflorescences axillary or terminal, male paniculate, female subracemose, without accrescent bracts. Male flowers: sepals 12–15, in whorls of 3, the innermost whorl larger and valvate, all externally pilose; petals 6, minute, dimorphic; stamens 3, introrse. Female flowers: staminodes absent; carpels 6; style subulate, recurved. Drupes narrowed at base into a short stipe; style-scar near base; endocarp crustaceous. Seed bean-shaped; endosperm absent; cotyledons thick, slightly curved.
