Characteristics

Plant 1-3 m tall. Leaves sessile, lanceolate, acuminate, glabrous, to 40 cm long and 10 cm wide; ligule 2-4 mm long, entire. Inflorescence to 30 cm long; main axis pubescent; flowers creamy-white, each subtended by a quickly caducous bract; bracteoles absent. Calyx 6-10 mm long. Corolla tube shorter than calyx; lobes to 10 mm long. Labellum to 10 mm long, c. 10 mm wide, white; lower part with 2 fleshy swellings within, forming a short tube with base of filament; free part cup-shaped. Stamen to 12 mm long; filament 7-9 mm long; anther without crest. Ovary 3-4 mm long, pubescent, trilocular. Capsule c. 1.5 cm long, orange-red.
