Characteristics

Annual herb 60-180 mm tall, stems simple or divaricately branched, glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.25-0.4 mm long. Leaves: lower ones 12-35 x 2.25-5 mm, narrowly to broadly spathulate, obscurely toothed, both surfaces glandular-pubescent; upper leaves 7.5-33 x 0.5-2(-3) mm, oblong to narrowly oblanceolate, entire or with 1-2 pairs of teeth, glandular-pubescent. Flowers few to many in terminal heads, elongating slightly in fruit, pedicels up to 1 mm long. Bracts 5-13 x 0.6-1.25(-1.5) mm, adnate nearly to top of calyx, linear to oblong, both surfaces glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.25-0.4 mm long. Calyx 4-6(-7) mm long, anticous lobes very short, posticous one c. 1-1.5 mm long, glandular-pubescent all over, hairs up to 0.25-0.4 mm long. Corolla tube 10-17 x 1-1.5 mm, glabrous or with occasional minute hairs, limb 8-13 mm across, lobes broadly elliptic, posticous ones 3-4.5 x 2-3 mm, anticous one 3.5-5 x 2.5-4 mm, white or creamy-coloured, orange-yellow patch at base of posticous lip, usually glabrous, occasionally with a few hairs. Stamens: anticous pair exserted, anthers 1-1.25 mm long, posticous pair in throat, filaments decurrent to base of tube, anthers 1.5-2 mm long. Stigma exserted. Capsules c. 4 x 3 mm Seeds c. 16 in each loculus, c. 1 mm long, distinctly 3-winged.
