Characteristics

Diminutive annual herb 30-130 mm tall, stems either simple or divaricately branched from the base, glandular-pubescent, hairs c. 0.25 mm long. Leaves: lower leaves 4-14 x 1.5-4 mm, broadly spathulate, rarely entire, usually with 2 pairs of obscure teeth, both surfaces thinly glandular-pubescent; upper leaves similar but smaller, 3-8 x 1-2.5 mm, mostly with 1 or 2 pairs of teeth. Flowers 1-5(-7) in very lax terminal racemes, pedicels 0.5-0.75 mm long. Bracts 3-7 x 0.5-1.75 mm, adnate almost to top of calyx, oblong to narrowly spathulate, often with 1 or 2 teeth, glandular-pubescent on both surfaces, hairs up to 0.3 mm long. Calyx 2.5-4 mm long, anticous lip scarcely notched, posticous lobe c. 0.5 mm long, glandular-pubescent all over, hairs up to 0.3 mm long. Corolla tube 3.5-8 x 0.5 mm, glabrous or with few minute hairs near apex, drying ochre-yellow, possibly white when fresh, limb 2.5-4 mm across, lobes oblong-elliptic, posticous ones 0.75-1 x 0.5-1 mm, anticous one 1-1.75 x 0.5-0.75 mm, white above, red beneath, bearded at base of posticous lip and with an orange patch there. Stamens 4, anticous pair well-exserted, anthers 0.25 mm long, posticous pair in mouth, filaments decurrent to base of tube, anthers 0.3 mm long. Stigma exserted. Capsules 2.5-3 x 2-3 mm Seeds c. 1 in each loculus, c. 0.75-1 mm long, distinctly 3-winged.
