Characteristics

Annual herb 70-200 mm tall, stems simple or branched either from the base or in the upper half, glandular-pubescent with an admixture of longer hairs 0.6-1.1 mm long. Leaves 7-35 x 0.5-4.5 mm, diminishing in size upwards, linear to oblanceolate, sometimes entire, mostly with 1-5 pairs of teeth, both surfaces glandular-pubescent. Flowers few to many in terminal heads, elongating somewhat in fruit, the lowermost flowers then up to c. 2.5(-5) mm apart, pedicels 0.75-1 mm long. Bracts 5.5-14 x 0.5-1.5(-2) mm, linear or oblong, usually entire, the lowermost occasionally with 1 or 2 teeth, adnate nearly to top of calyx tube, glandular-pubescent on both surfaces, hairs up to 0.6-1.2 mm long. Calyx 3.5-5 mm long, anticous lobes very short, posticous one c. 1.5 mm long, glandular-pubescent mainly on the greenish keels, hairs 0.6-1.2 mm long. Corolla tube 5-6.5 x 1.5-1.75 mm, glabrous or with sparse minute glandular hairs, limb (6-)8-14 mm across, lobes elliptic, posticous ones 2-3 x 1.5-2.5 mm, anticous ones 3-5 x 1.5-3.25 mm, limb creamy white or palest yellow, the posticous lobes tipped orange-yellow and with an orange-yellow blotch at base of lobes in throat, there either glabrous or very sparsely hairy. Stamens all well exserted, anthers 1 mm long, posticous filaments decurrent to base of tube. Stigma exserted. Capsule 3-4.5 x 2.5-3.2 mm Seeds many, c. 1 mm long, distinctly 3-winged.
