Characteristics

Annual herb 70-160 mm tall, stems simple or corymbosely branched in the upper part, glandular-pubescent, the hairs up to 0.25-0.4 mm long. Leaves 11-25 x 0.5-2(-3.75) mm, lowermost 1-2 pairs of leaves the broadest and often the shortest, otherwise diminishing in breadth rather than in length upwards, linear to oblanceolate, entire or with 1-2 pairs of teeth. Flowers up to 10 in small heads, elongating slightly in fruit, pedicels up to 1 mm long. Bracts 8-18 x 0.5-0.75 mm, adnate almost to top of calyx, linear, glandular-pubescent on both surfaces, hairs c. 0.3-0.4 mm long. Calyx 5.5-9 mm long, anticous lobes short, posticous one c. 1-1.75 mm long, glandular-pubescent all over, hairs c. 0.3-0.4 mm long. Corolla tube 22-40 x 1.25-1.5 mm, glandular-pubescent, limb 10-13.5 mm across, lobes broadly elliptic, posticous ones 4.5-6 x 3-3.8 mm, anticous one 5-6 x 3.5-4.5 mm, limb cream (or pale yellow?) flushed orange all round in throat, backs of lobes and tube often flushed purplish, throat glabrous or with, literally, 1 or 2 hairs below the posticous lip. Stamens: anticous pair strongly exserted, anthers 1 mm long, posticous pair in throat, filaments decurrent to base of tube, anthers 1.5 mm long. Stigma exserted. Capsules 5-6 x 3-3.5 mm Seeds many, c. 1 mm long, distinctly 3-winged.
