Characteristics

Annual herb 65-280 mm tall, stems simple or sparingly branched either from the base or in the upper half, shortly glandular-pubescent with an admixture of longer hairs 0.25-1 mm long. Leaves c. 7-30 x 14(-5) mm, diminishing in size upwards, linear, oblanceolate or elliptic, with 1-3 pairs of rather obscure teeth, thinly to thickly glandular-pubescent on both surfaces. Flowers few to many in small terminal heads, heads elongating slightly in fruit, lowermost flowers then sometimes distant, pedicels up to 0.5 mm long. Bracts 4.5-14 x 0.5-3 mm, broadly lanceolate to ovate, adnate roughly halfway or a little more up calyx tube (1.25-3.25 mm), glandular-pubescent all over backs, hairs 0.25-1 mm long. Calyx 34(4.5) mm long, anticous lobes very short, posticous one c. 1.5-2 mm long, glandular-pubescent particularly on the greenish keels, hairs up to 0.5-1 mm long. Corolla tube 3.5-5 x 1-2 mm, glabrous, limb 3-5 mm across, rarely 6 mm, lobes oblong, posticous ones 0.75-1.5 x 0.5-1.25 mm, white tipped yellow, anticous ones 1.25-2.5 x 0.5-1.5 mm, white, posticous lip with a yellow patch in the throat and there pubescent. Stamens all well exserted, anthers c. 0.5 mm long, posticous filaments decurrent to base of tube. Stigma exserted. Capsule 3-3.5 x 2.4-3 mm Seeds c. 1 mm long, distinctly 3-winged.
