Characteristics

Very delicate annual herb 30-190 mm tall, stem erect, simple or branched, glandular-puberulous. Leaves: lowermost 8-15 x 2-3 mm, oblanceolate or occasionally elliptic, base petiole-like, upper margins few-toothed, the teeth minute, upper surface glabrous, lower glandular-puberulous mainly at base and along midline, margins glandular-puberulous, upper leaves c. 5-8 x 1-1.5 mm, mostly elliptic, usually entire, otherwise as lower leaves. Inflorescence a raceme terminating each branch, axis filiform, 20-90 mm long, flowers several to many, distant pedicels 1.5-5 mm long, filiform. Bracts (excluding part adnate to pedicel, which is exceptionally long) 1.5-2.75 x 0.3-0.75 mm, elliptic, canaliculate, adnate to lower part of calyx tube (0.5-0.75 mm), minutely glandular-puberulous outside. Calyx 1.25-1.6 mm long, distinctly bilabiate but lobes very small, membranous but strongly keeled and glandular puberulous mainly there. Corolla tube 1-1.5 x 0.75-1 mm, glabrous, limb probably seldom expanded and then c. 2 mm across; lobes all alike, 0.5-0.75 x 0.2-0.3 mm at base, deltoid, very acute, white. Stamens either 4 or reduced to 2 or 3, then sometimes with a staminode, exserted, anthers minute, filaments not decurrent. Stigma exserted. Capsule 1.5-1.75 x 1.5-2 mm Seeds c. 4 in each loculus, c. 0.75 x 0.5 mm, obscurely 3-angled, irregularly colliculate, with a narrow whitish wing at one or both ends.
