Characteristics

A low shrub with prostrate and climbing branches up to 1 m. long.. Stems red-brown above, brown and woody below, minutely puberulent.. Ocreae strongly nerved, brown, membranous, readily tearing, ± 1 cm. long.. Leaves small, nearly sessile, glabrous, all of ± similar size, rather leathery, 1–4 cm. × 5–10 mm., ovate-elliptic, ± evenly narrowed to each end; apically acute (or obtuse when immature) with a sharp apical mucro; margins revolute.. Inflorescence a leafy raceme; the flowers all axillary, 3–5 in each cluster, yellow-green or whitish, becoming brownish-purple.. Pedicels ± 1 mm. long.. Tepals 2.5–2.75 mm. long, ovate, very obtuse; free for ¾ the length of the perianth.. Stamens 6–8, dilated below.. Styles 3, free to the base; stigmas capitate.. Nut trigonous, brown, smooth and shining; at least two faces very concave.. Fig. 3/5, p. 15.
