Characteristics

Low woody, evergreen undershrub, 0.2-0.4 m high; stems erect, nodes swollen. Ocreae silvery, hyaline, nearly as long as short internodes, lacerating easily. Leaves crowded on branches, small, ± ovate, up to 18 x 9 mm, apex acute, margins undulate, punctate-glandular below. Bracts membranous. Flowers fascicled in axils of leaves, 1-5 flowers per bract. Perianth white or creamish. Stamens 6, included. Flowering time Dec.-Mar. Fruit a brown, shiny nut.
