Characteristics

Shrub 1.5–5(–6) m. tall with long slender glabrous branchlets (see note).. Leaf-blades elliptic to oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate, 3.3–18.5 cm. long, 1.2–6 cm. wide, typically quite large, shortly acuminate at the apex, broadly cuneate to rounded at the base, glabrous; petioles 0.6–1.2(–1.8) cm. long; stipules triangular, 1.5–2 mm. long.. Inflorescences sessile, the two axillary parts forming a globose cluster up to 2 cm. diameter appearing to be more bracteated than in other species with imbricated groups of bracts and bracteoles; bracts and secondary bracts semicircular, 2 mm. long and wide, adpressed pubescent; main bracteoles cupular, 1.5–2 mm. long, adpressed brown sericeous-pubescent, second and third bracteoles beneath the main cup also cupular and ± 2 mm. long.. Calyx similarly pubescent; tube 1.2 mm. long; limb 2.5 mm. long, 4-toothed or ± truncate.. Corolla creamy white, adpressed pubescent outside, acuminate in bud; tube 4.5–5 mm. long; lobes broadly ovate, 3 mm. long and wide, acute; throat densely white hairy.. Style 7.5–8(–9.5) mm. long, densely white pubescent save near base.. Fruit subglobose, 7–10 mm. wide, very slightly didymous with slight lateral groove, glabrous or puberulous around the base of the persistent calyx-limb remnant.
