Herbs. Leaves alternate. Capitula heterogamous & disciform; phyllaries multiseriate, the outermost shortest; receptacle hairy. Outer florets female, filiform with minute lobes; inner florets hermaphrodite, infundibuliform, lobes 5, pilose, anthers sagittate, style arms linear and obtuse. Achenes hairy; pappus of 5–9 ± smooth bristles, rarely with an additional series of shorter scales.
