Robust species. Plants 400–1,200 mm tall. Free part of leaf 100–150 × 6–10 mm, fleshy, green to blackish. Spike 90–300 mm long, 20–60-flowered. Ovary sessile, green or black, appressed. Flowers crowded, strongly scented, 15–20 × 10–14 mm, greenish brown to bronze, labellum lamina pink, mauve or purplish, callus green with mauve margins. Dorsal sepal 11–14 × 3.5–5 mm, incurved. Lateral sepals fused, erect behind labellum, each sepal 10–12 × 2.5–3.5 mm, margins incurved. Petals 9–12 × 2.5–3.5 mm, incurved to spreading, margins sometimes irregular. Labellum thickly stalked, recurved near middle, 8–11 × 5–6 mm, margins strongly wavy/crinkled or frilly. Callus extending nearly to labellum apex, base broad and thick, rest narrow and tapered, margins raised, ridged, frilly.
Widespread and common, particularly in coastal and near-coastal areas; found growing in shrubby forest, woodland and heath in freely draining sand and laterite.
