Characteristics

Plants 200–35  tall. Free part of leaf to 150 x 3–5mm. Spike 30–9  long, 5–40-flowered. Ovary shortly stalked, green, shiny. Flowers moderately crowded, unscented, 11–14.5 x 7–12mm, brownish-green, petals white or purplish, labellum white (rarely purplish), callus yellowish-green. Dorsal sepal 7.5–9 x 3–3.5mm, incurved or decurved. Lateral sepals free, 8–10 x 1.8–2.2mm, widely divergent, curved. Petals 8–10 x 1.8–2mm, strongly incurved, pointed. Labellum sessile, oblong, 8.5–10.5 x 4–5mm, sharply recurved back on itself near middle, distal margins wavy/crinkled. Callus ending just beyond labellum bend, apex papillate, notched.

Occurs in montane and subalpine areas growing in tussock grassland, sedgeland and among scattered shrubs in poorly drained loam; often grows in clumps of snow cushionplant (Donatia novae-zelandiae).
