Characteristics

Plants 300–50  tall. Free part of leaf to 150 x 4–6mm. Spike 80–12  long, 15–35-flowered. Ovary shortly stalked, bright green. Flowers crowded, opening widely, lightly scented, 16–18 x 6–8mm, greenish-white to purplish, labellum green or with pink or mauve tones, callus greenish. Dorsal sepal 7–9 x 3–3.5mm, decurved. Lateral sepals free, 6–7.5 x 2–2.3mm, nearly parallel, erect or recurved. Petals 6–7 x 1–1.2mm, porrect to incurved. Labellum shortly stalked, ovate-lanceolate, 6–7 x 3–3.5mm, sharply recurved near middle, base broadest, margins constricted near middle, ending in a narrow tail not much wider than callus, distal margins slightly irregular. Callus raised, fleshy, extending nearly to labellum apex.

Environment

Known from only a single locality and less than 50 plants where it grows among dense rushes and sedges in low-lying marshy habitat in heavy clay loam. Soil wet when orchid flowers but dries out over summer. Flowering promoted by fire and slashing.
