Plants 500–2,00 tall. Free part of leaf to 250 x 10–16mm, fleshy, green to blackish. Spike 90–50 long, 40–100-flowered. Ovary sessile, long, green, appressed to stem. Flowers well-spaced to crowded, lightly scented, 16–25 x 10–15mm, green, greenish-brown, brown or blackish, labellum lamina pink, mauve or purplish, callus green with pale margin. Dorsal sepal 11–16 x 4–5mm, incurved or recurved. Lateral sepals fused (often free at base and tips), erect behind labellum, each sepal 10–12 x 2–3mm. Petals 10–12 x 3mm, incurved to spreading. Labellum stalked, recurved sharply near middle, 8–10 x 5–6mm, margins wavy to slightly crinkled. Callus occupying most of labellum, extending nearly to labellum apex, usually green, shiny, broad, fleshy, tapered.
Often locally common in coastal and near-coastal habitats; near Perth it occurs it winter-wet swamps, flats and drainage lines but further S it grows in freely draining soil in tall high-rainfall forests.
