Plants 200–40 tall. Free part of leaf to 200 x 5–8mm. Spike 80–22 long, 10–25-flowered. Ovary shortly stalked, green. Flowers widely spaced, lightly to strongly scented, 14–16 x 8–10mm, greenish to greenish-brown (tepals often with yellowish margins), labellum greenish-brown to whitish, callus green to brown. Dorsal sepal 9–11 x 3.5–4.5mm, often recurved, with three darker veins. Lateral sepals free, 7–9 x 2.5–3 mm, recurved (sometimes strongly). Petals spreading, recurved or upswept, 8–10 x 2mm, with pale margins. Labellum shortly stalked, ovate-lanceolate to elliptical, 6–8 x 4–4.5mm, sharply recurved near middle, base broad then constricted, with an apical tail-like portion. Callus thick, fleshy, bulbous, extending nearly to labellum apex.
Relatively widespread, growing in a range of sedgy, heathy and scrubby habitats in freely draining or poorly drained sandy and peaty soils.
