Shrub 1.5–6 m. tall; bark pale brown; young stems densely velvety pubescent, later glabrous, chestnut and ± corky.. Leaf-blades with camphor-like smell, ovate to rounded-elliptic, 2.5–12(–14.7) cm. long, 1.8–8.5(–14) cm. wide, acuminate or ± rounded at the apex, rounded at the base, closely shallowly dentate-crenate or ± entire, ± discolorous, densely pubescent above on midrib and main nerves, velvety pubescent beneath or sparsely pubescent only, occasionally almost glabrous, with dense bright yellow often almost crystalline glands on both surfaces, often drying yellow-green; petiole 0.3–4 cm. long, pubescent.. Flowers in dense corymbose panicles 1.5–8 cm. long, 3–8 cm. wide; peduncle 1.5–2.5 cm. long; pedicels very short; axes pubescent; bracts up to 8 mm. long.. Calyx with yellow glands; tube 1.5 mm. long, 2-lipped, one lip 2 mm. long, bifid, the lobes 0.5 × 1 mm., rounded and ciliate, the other lip oblong, 2 × 1 mm.; lobes often pale.. Corolla aromatic, green or greenish white; tube 2 mm. long, puberulous outside; limb 2-lipped, the lobes 1.5–2 mm. long, ciliate.. Style 3.5–4.5 mm. long.. Fruit purple, greenish or ? white, globose, 4.5–5 mm. diameter, glabrous to puberulous and minutely glandular, sitting in a lacerate calycine cup up to 6.5 mm. wide; said to be edible.
