Scandent shrub or small tree to 4 m.; young stems densely orange-ferruginous velvety with dendritically branched hairs, later glabrous, with obscurely ridged pale grey-brown thinly corky epidermis; lateral shoots abbreviated, 0.5–3 cm. long.. Leaves elliptic or obovate to ± obovate-oblanceolate, 3–10 cm. long, 1–4 cm. wide, acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, densely stellate ferruginous pubescent on both surfaces when young, later glabrescent with indumentum much more scattered, subentire to distinctly fairly distantly toothed especially towards the apex; petioles 0.5–1 cm. long, densely ferruginous stellate pubescent with branched hairs.. Inflorescences short dense terminal and axillary ovoid clusters mostly on the short lateral shoots, 1–2 cm. long, ± 1.5 cm. wide; bracts linear, 2–3 mm. long; pedicels obsolete.. Calyx with dense ferruginous stellate hairs; tube tubular, ± 3 mm. long, the teeth triangular, 1 mm. long.. Corolla yellowish brown or yellowish cream, 3–3.5 mm. long; lobes rounded-oblong, 2 mm. long, 1.2 mm. wide, stellate pubescent outside; stamens exserted.. More
Leaves opposite-decussate, somewhat closely spaced, longer than the internodes, 3–7.5(10) × l.7–3.2(4) cm, elliptic to oblanceolate, ± sharply acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, subentire to shallowly and ± distantly dentate or only so in the upper half, light green, slightly discolorous (darker above), stellate-pubescent on both surfaces when young, later glabrescent, the hairs densest on the nervation beneath, with minute spherical yellow glands beneath; lower pair of nerves basal; petiole 3–7(10) mm long, slender, densely ferruginous pubescent with branched hairs.
Inflorescences short dense terminal and axillary ovoid clusters mostly on the short lateral branches, 1–2 cm long and c. 1.5 cm wide, shorter than the subtending leaf; bracts 2–6 mm long, linear; peduncles up to 13 mm long; pedicels 0.5–1 mm long.
Corolla yellow or yellowish-brown, 2-lipped, 6–6.5 mm long, stellate-pubescent outside; upper lip ± cucullate, suborbicular in outline, very shortly emarginate; lower lip 3-lobed, the lobes oblong, rounded at the top.
Older branches with a pale green, thinly corky fissured epidermis, glabrous; young branches and branchlets slender, densely fulvous-tomentose to glabrescent; lateral shoots abbreviated, 0.5–3 cm long.
Scandent shrub or small tree, 2–4 m tall; indumentum on the branches, petioles, inflorescence branches and calyx of stellate or dendritically branched hairs.
Calyx densely ferruginous pubescent; tube c. 3 mm long, tubular, with teeth 1 mm long, triangular.
Stamens exserted, shorter than the corolla lips; anthers c. 0.5 mm long, pale.
Drupes c. 3.5 mm in diameter, black, glabrous.
