Leaves opposite-decussate, somewhat closely spaced, longer than the internodes, 3–7.5(10) × l.7–3.2(4) cm, elliptic to oblanceolate, ± sharply acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, subentire to shallowly and ± distantly dentate or only so in the upper half, light green, slightly discolorous (darker above), stellate-pubescent on both surfaces when young, later glabrescent, the hairs densest on the nervation beneath, with minute spherical yellow glands beneath; lower pair of nerves basal; petiole 3–7(10) mm long, slender, densely ferruginous pubescent with branched hairs.
Inflorescences short dense terminal and axillary ovoid clusters mostly on the short lateral branches, 1–2 cm long and c. 1.5 cm wide, shorter than the subtending leaf; bracts 2–6 mm long, linear; peduncles up to 13 mm long; pedicels 0.5–1 mm long.
Corolla yellow or yellowish-brown, 2-lipped, 6–6.5 mm long, stellate-pubescent outside; upper lip ± cucullate, suborbicular in outline, very shortly emarginate; lower lip 3-lobed, the lobes oblong, rounded at the top.
Older branches with a pale green, thinly corky fissured epidermis, glabrous; young branches and branchlets slender, densely fulvous-tomentose to glabrescent; lateral shoots abbreviated, 0.5–3 cm long.
Scandent shrub or small tree, 2–4 m tall; indumentum on the branches, petioles, inflorescence branches and calyx of stellate or dendritically branched hairs.
Calyx densely ferruginous pubescent; tube c. 3 mm long, tubular, with teeth 1 mm long, triangular.
Stamens exserted, shorter than the corolla lips; anthers c. 0.5 mm long, pale.
Drupes c. 3.5 mm in diameter, black, glabrous.
