Characteristics

Herbs perennial. Leaves forming a rosette; petiole usuallynearly as long as leaf blade, inconspicuous to 2 X as long asleaf blade; leaf blade oblong to ovate or broadly spatulate, 1--7X 0.5--2 cm, glabrous or sparsely minutely glandular abaxially,base attenuate, margin irregularly remote denticulate, apex obtuseto rounded. Scapes 8--30 cm, efarinose or white farinose towardapex; umbels 3--10-flowered; bracts often tinged with purple,narrowly lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 3--10 mm, scarcely farinose,base slightly gibbous. Pedicel 0.6--3.5 cm, minutely glandular.Flowers heterostylous. Calyx green or tinged with purple, narrowlycampanulate, (5--)6--10 mm, glandular outside, white farinoseinside and on margin, parted to middle; lobes lanceolate to triangular,glandular ciliolate. Corolla pink to purple, rarely white, annulateor exannulate; tube 0.8--1.3 cm; limb 1.5--2.5 cm wide; lobesbroadly obovate, deeply emarginate. Pin flowers: stamens at middleof corolla tube; style reaching mouth. Thrum flowers with positionsreciprocal. Capsule elliptic, slightly longer than calyx.
