Heads radiate, pedunculate, solitary at ends of branches, forming compound inflorescence, ± oblong in outline. Involucral bracts 7-or 8-seriate, imbricate, grey-felty hairy and sparsely glandular, straw-like, yellowish, thick-textured. Flowers: ray florets distinct, white or pale to dark purple; disc florets white, yellow or purple; Apr. Fruit with cypsela cylindric, brown, 9-10-ribbed, glandular. Pappus of many, barbellate bristles, 2-or 3-seriate.
