Characteristics

Suffrutex with very numerous stiffly erect stems 30-70 cm. high, simple or (? only after damage) sparsely branched with terminal heads.. Stems 1-2 mm. in diameter, glabrous.. Leaves linear to linear-spathulate, 4-8 × 0.3-0.6 cm., 12-20 times as long as broad, long-cuneate at the base, subacute to subobtuse at the apex, obscurely veined, glabrous, stiffly ascending.. Heads 3-4 cm. in diameter.. Middle bracts 1-1.5 × 0.6-0.9 cm., subacute to obtuse or rounded, reddish brown, glabrous; inner bracts linear-oblong, 1.7-2.5 × 0.2-0.3 cm., equalling to slightly exceeding the flowers, glabrous.. Flowers white or ? pink, 1.7-2 cm.. Perianth-base and claw glabrous outside, densely villous inside; limb glabrous, 4.5-6 mm.. Fig. 4.
