Stems stout, woody, highly divaricate, 6-10 mm in diam., glabrous. Leaves ascending, linear-spathulate to narrowly or broadly oblanceolate, 35-60 mm long, 5-20 mm wide, apices rounded to obtuse; coriaceous, glabrous, occasionally glaucescent. Inflorescences globose in bud becoming spherical to ovoid on opening, the perianths and styles projecting beyond the involucral bracts. Involucral bracts 5-6 seriate, outer series tightly imbricate, ovate-oblong, 8-10 mm long, 6-8 mm wide, sparsely pilose to glabrescent, thin and papyraceous in texture, margins fimbriate; inner series narrowly oblong to linear-spathulate, widely splayed, 20-35 mm long, 3-10 mm wide, apices rounded; indumentum patchy, white-sericeous to ferruginously pilose, glabrous to glabrescent proximally. Perianth 35-45 mm long; tube 5-10 mm long, prominently ridged, glabrous proximally, becoming villous distally; claws straight, villous; limbs adaxially curved, linear, 10-12 mm long, tomentose, acuminate to shortly aristate; awns lanate. Anthers 3, subsessile; abaxial anther on free abaxial limb reduced to a fleshy staminode. Style 45-55 mm long, glabrous, ancipitous proximally, tapering, terete and markedly adaxially incurved distally. Pollen presenter linear, straight, swollen at junction with style, apex capitellate. Ovary obconic, 5 mm long, covered with 10 mm long, dark rusty-brown trichomes. Hypogynous scales ovate, 1 mm long.
