Origin: in Anacortes, Wash., by R.A. Norton, J. King, and G.A. Moulton, Northwestern Washington Res. and Ext. Center, Mt. Vernon. Introd. in 1987. Chance seedling of unknown parentage, discovered by Jean Copeland. Tree: moderate to low vigor; spreading; prolific and consistent cropper; partially self-fruitful. Blooms prolifically, 3 days before Skaha. Tolerant to brown rot, Coryneum blight, and blossom blight caused by Pseudomonas syringae. Particularly adapted to a cool, maritime climate. Fruit: medium; roundish ovate; skin light red to red-orange blush on clear yellow background; flesh deep yellow-orange, firm, sweet; freestone; ripens about 8 Aug. at Mt. Vernon, Wash., 1 week later than Rival; for home gardens.
