Origin: in Excelsior, Minn., by A.N. Wilcox, T.S. Weir, and Shirley Trantanella, Minnesota Agr. Expt. Sta. Fruit Breeding Farm. Introd. in 1961. Superb × Prunus sibirica L. 'Manchu'; cross made in 1940; sibling of Moongold; tested as Minn. 36. Tree: size medium; vigorous, rather upright; exceptionally hardy; very productive; self-unfruitful, but pollinated by Moongold; intended for the Minnesota climate. For home gardens. Fruit: round to slightly elongated, averaging 1 1/4 inches in diam.; skin medium thin, tender, gold with orange blush; flesh clear orange, tender, medium juicy, flavor very mild and sweet, quality very good; fine for dessert and processing; freestone; ripens in early August; hangs well on tree until ripe.
