Origin: in Fonthill, Ont., Canada. Introd. before 1946. Chance seedling; Japanese type but may be myrobalan × Japanese plum (possibly Shiro or Burbank); first sold by Wellington & Davidson (now Fonthill Nurseries), Fonthill. Tree: self-unfruitful, sets well with pollen of myrobalan; blooms very early; productive, tends to bear biennially; vigorous. Widely planted in Ontario. Fruit: treated commercially as a Japanese type; round; skin golden with high blush; not as large as Shiro, but ripens 10 to 14 days before that variety and just ahead of Wrights Early; flesh firm, golden, smooth, quality good; stone small, free.
