Cultivation

Origin: in Davis, Calif., by W.L. Howard, California Agr. Expt. Sta. Introd. about 1940. Open-pollinated seedling of Marianna; selected in 1926. Marianna is a cultivar, apparently, of Prunus cerasifera × P. munsoniana (?); however, some horticulturists consider Marianna as just P. cerasifera. Tree: Fruit: not commercial. Used only as a rootstock: resistant to rootknot nematode; partially resistant to oak root fungus; grows vigorously; propagated vegetatively by hardwood cuttings.
